# Travel-Inspired Furniture The Visitor Collection by Judith Jacobi Creatively Addresses Commuting By Meghan Young | Published 2013-02-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/visitor-collection References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/visitor-collection-by-judith-jacobi) The Visitor Collection is comprised of [furniture designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collection-co) that address the needs surrounding [commuting, travel and communication](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gateway-collection). But instead of addressing them in a purely practical sense, the Visitor Collection takes a much more creative approach. Designed by Judith Jacobi, a student at [Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-lehn) in Halle, Germany, the Visitor Collection consists of three designs. The calendar features a perforated aesthetic that allows the dates to become secondary to the bird-like pegs that represent family members. A map is completed with little moveable compartments to store memories in and a quirky rack serves as a well-prepared nest for arrivals. With the Visitor Collection in mind, Jacobi writes, "Commuting between one location and another is not about the places itself and neither about logistics and time management. It is rather about the people who are important to us and who care about us. At last we put up with such a double life for our friends and families." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 90% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Personalized Furniture:** Furniture designs that incorporate personal elements, such as family members, to reflect the owner's values and connections. - **Transportation-inspired Design:** Designs that incorporate elements of transportation and travel to enhance the experience of commuting and traveling. - **Functional Decor:** Designs that serve both a practical function and an aesthetic purpose, creating a more efficient and enjoyable environment. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunities to incorporate personalized and functional elements into furniture designs to enhance the overall customer experience and market value. - **Interior Design:** Opportunities to create transportation-inspired designs that reflect the travel and commuting needs of clients and incorporate functional decor elements to optimize their living spaces. - **Gift and Souvenir Industry:** Opportunities to create unique and personalized gifts and souvenirs that incorporate transportation-inspired designs to commemorate travel experiences and connections with loved ones. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Travel-Themed Fractured Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baggage-claim-mirrors.md) - [Unconventional Outdoor Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-joy-furniture.md) - [Charming Workplace Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zoozoo-collection-by-narbutas.md) - [Interdependency-Inspired Designer Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hilo.md) - [Customizable Home Decor Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rebound-furniture-collection.md) - [Textured Modern Furniture Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touch-collections.md) - [Movement-Distilling Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borris-collection.md) - [Functional Furniture Suitcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lulley-luggage-trolley.md) - [Public-Oriented Furniture Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furniture-for-public-use.md)
