# Dubiously Designed Flash Drives Virus Usb Device is Modeled as a Cute but Questionable Character By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/virus-usb References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/VIRUS-USB/3547677) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/VIRUS-USB/3547677) You wouldn't expect an electronic device to have personality, but the Virus USB appears to have a suspicious one. The designer deviated from the common practice of creating a boring-looking box for his [data storage device](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/extreme-fit-usb-c) and instead sculpted a [spherical form with ears](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-earbuds-concept) and a painted face. Bright fuchsia eyes and an overbite are strikingly suspicious cartoony features. A base shade of black makes the quirky critter look like an adorable parasite, complete with a strange tail in the form of a cord and a computer connector. Equally, the [odd external hard drive](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buffalo-skeleton-hard-disk) by Mangatanz resembles a bomb with an ignitable wick. The Virus USB whimsically suggests that its an unsafe gadget to use with your computer. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 39% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Quirky Storage Devices:** Opportunity to design unique data storage devices with personality and unconventional shapes. - **Suspicious Features in Design:** Chance to add questionable characteristics to products for quirky appeal. - **Anti-virus Devices:** Possibility to create products that play with the concept of viruses and protection. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Potential to create unique, eye-catching devices that stand out from the competition. - **Design and Art:** Opportunity to incorporate artistic elements into functional technology. - **Cybersecurity:** Potential to create products that challenge the traditional view of virus protection and add a touch of humor or personality. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Icon-Shaped USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive.md) - [Bird-Shaped USB Flash Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinge.md) - [Playful External Hard-Disk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive.md) - [Monolithic Desktop Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unidentifed-hard-disk-drive.md) - [Playful Crayon USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandisk-crayola-usbc.md) - [Charming Retro Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floppy-disk-inspired-sd-card.md) - [Spaceship-Inspired USB Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/docking-station-usb-hub.md) - [Shipping Container Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive1.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-discovery-flash-drives.md)
