# Musical Eco Shingles The Vinyl Record Roof is Music to Environmentalist Ears By Michael Hines | Published 2010-11-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vinyl-record-roof References: [treehugger](http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/11/nashville-musician-shingles-roof-with-records.php) I don't know how someone manages to damage 350 vinyl records, but Nashville-based musician Matt Glassmeyer sure does. Instead of throwing them away however, he has created a full vinyl record roof for his porch using all 350 records. Having [made his own instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-guitar-1), Glassmeyer probably didn't have too much difficulty extending his [upcycle-savvy hands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shor-house) to his porch roof. It now comprises aligned records in an overlapping pattern, replacing traditional shingles. If this isn't upcycling at its finest, I don't know what is. Check out the gallery to see more of Matt Glassmeyer's cool vinyl record roof. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Upcycling:** The use of vinyl records as shingles demonstrates the potential for upcycling in construction materials. - **Eco-friendly Design:** The vinyl record roof showcases the demand for eco-friendly and sustainable design solutions. - **Creative Repurposing:** The repurposing of damaged vinyl records as a functional roof highlights the trend of creative repurposing in design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction:** The construction industry can explore using unconventional materials like vinyl records for roofing, opening up new eco-friendly design possibilities. - **Sustainability:** The sustainable industry can embrace innovative approaches to repurposing materials, such as incorporating vinyl records into eco-friendly building practices. - **Design:** The design industry can tap into the trend of creative repurposing by exploring new ways to integrate unconventional materials into functional and aesthetically pleasing products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Indie Album Releases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-music.md) - [Eco Suitcase Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victrola-respin.md) - [Metallic Architectural Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rytm.md) - [Visceral Record Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-kinetic.md) - [Vinyl Storage Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-toneoptic-rpm.md) - [Motor-Shaped Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotor-vinyl-record-player.md) - [Green Roof Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shibanee-kamal.md) - [Vinyl Record Credenzas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geology-studio.md) - [Transparent Vinyl Player Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transparent-vinyl-player.md)
