# Music Device Mashups Jeff Mills' Vinyl CD Can Be Played on a Turntable or in a CD Player By Michael Hines | Published 2010-06-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vinyl-cd References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2010/06/the-vinyl-and-cd-release-on-one-disc-from-jeff-mills.html) & [myspace](http://www.myspace.com/jeffmillsofficialspace) Jeff Mills is an American techno DJ whose latest album, 'The Occurence - Sleeper Wakes,' is available on a Vinyl CD. That's right, this CD is a vinyl record and vice versa. I find the Vinyl CD amazing. Vinyls have been written off by mainstream music consumers as outdated tech. But there is something to be said about [putting a record on](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victrola-soundstage) and hearing the needle scratch. [Aspiring DJ heroes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brick-turntable) will love the Vinyl CD. I guarantee it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Multimedia](https://www.trendhunter.com/multimedia) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Vinyl CD Revival:** The fusion of vinyl and CD technology presents opportunities for a revival of interest in both formats. - **Combined Music Formats:** Mashup devices like the Vinyl CD open up possibilities for combining multiple music formats into a single device. - **Nostalgic Music Experiences:** The appeal of the Vinyl CD lies in the nostalgia it evokes, providing an opportunity for businesses to create unique music experiences. ### Where This Applies - **Music Technology:** The fusion of vinyl and CD technology presents an opportunity for music tech companies to develop innovative hybrid devices. - **Audio Equipment Manufacturing:** The demand for mashup devices like the Vinyl CD can drive growth in the audio equipment manufacturing industry. - **Music Events and Experiences:** The nostalgic appeal of the Vinyl CD opens up opportunities for music event organizers to create unique and immersive experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Virtual Vinyl Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/turntable-music-explorer.md) - [Retro-Modern Turntable Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-turntable-concept.md) - [Vertical Vinyl Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vs01-bluetooth-vertical-turntable.md) - [Minimalist CD Player Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinyl-cover.md) - [Vertical Space-Saving Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-vinyl-record-player.md) - [Sculptural Modern Turntable Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amuni-studio.md) - [Contemporary Vertical Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toverse.md) - [Multifunctional Compact Music Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playdisc.md) - [Digitally Enabled CD Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-cd-player.md)
