# Lavishly Canopied Residences The Villa Nefkins Provides a Versatile Outdoor Experience By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-09-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-nefkens References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/08/31/the-villa-nefkens-by-mecanoo-architects/) & [mecanoo.nl](http://www.mecanoo.nl/) Mecanoo Architects designed the 'Villa Nefkens,' a regal residence located in Wageningen, The Netherlands. More specifically, the spectacular home is located where the border of the Veluwe and Gelderse Vallei intersects with the Rhine River. The family chose this site precisely for the magnificent river views, which are available in almost every room, most obviously the living and dining areas. The project description notes that the terraces "elevate the house to just above grade," making it appear as though it is levitating. The house transitions from indoor to outdoor spaces gradually, and quietly, preferring an understated development. Finally, the villa is surrounded by a canopy that frames the views, and allows the outdoor spaces to be enjoyed even as summer fades into fall. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 9% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Regal Residences:** Opportunity for creating luxurious and grand residential homes with stunning architectural designs and scenic views. - **Gradual Indoor-outdoor Transitions:** Opportunity for designing homes that seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a harmonious and versatile living experience. - **Canopy Framed Outdoor Spaces:** Opportunity to incorporate canopies into outdoor spaces, providing shelter and framing scenic views for year-round enjoyment. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Real Estate:** Innovation in architectural design and real estate development to create opulent residences with unique features, such as gradual indoor-outdoor transitions and scenic views. - **Outdoor Furniture and Home Decor:** Opportunity for creating trendy and stylish outdoor furniture and home decor, catering to the growing demand for luxurious outdoor living spaces. - **Landscaping and Garden Design:** Opportunity for landscape architects and garden designers to incorporate canopies and create outdoor spaces that seamlessly connect with the environment while providing shelter and aesthetic appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bamboo-Clad Residential Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/open-park-villa.md) - [Sustainable Semi-Detached Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-residu.md) - [Panoramic Terraced Villas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-95.md) - [Glamorous Urban Tranquil Villas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/natural-villa.md) - [Coastal Terraced Villas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-bo.md) - [Layered Hillside Villas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-villa-bo.md) - [Serene Heartwarming Villa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-minimale.md) - [Plant-Covered Concrete Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-kd45.md) - [Beach-Overlooking Picturesque Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-a.md)
