# Unconventionally Designed Modern Cottages Villa G Resembles a Scandinavian Cottage With a Twist By Madison Mackay | Published 2018-07-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-g References: [uncrate](https://uncrate.com/villa-g/) & [wingardhs.se](http://wingardhs.se/project/andre-pihl/2018/27/) Replacing a summer home that was built on the property in the 1960s, the new [Villa G](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-minimale) is an unconventionally designed cottage that takes advantage of the seaward views on the coast of the Swedish Island. The new construction was designed with a trio of diamond-shaped structures, giving the volume a unique bat-like shape. The black exterior is made from a high-end timber to pay homage to the original Scandinavian cottage. The interior offers a stark contrast by adding bright white walls and minimalist furniture. The polished concrete floor adds a loft-like aesthetic, acting as a backdrop for the designer to add vibrant pops of color with unique furniture. The Villa G is completed with fitted panels of glass along the western side to offer expansive views of the surrounding Baltic Sea. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.7/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Unconventional Cottage Design:** Opportunity to create unconventional and unique cottage designs that deviate from traditional models and utilize features rarely seen before. - **Minimalist Interior Design:** Opportunity to incorporate minimalist interior design into small spaces, creating a sleek and modern aesthetic that maximizes functionality and space usage. - **Seaside Architecture:** Opportunity to design buildings and homes that take advantage of seaside views while still incorporating unique designs that add to the aesthetic of the surrounding area. ### Where This Applies - **Real Estate:** Opportunity for real estate agents and brokers to offer unconventional and unique cottage designs that appeal to modern buyers looking for something different. - **Architecture and Design:** Opportunity for architects and designers to create innovative and unique designs for small homes and cottages that push the boundaries of traditional architecture and showcase modern, minimalist design features. - **Construction and Materials Manufacturing:** Opportunity for companies that manufacture and sell high-quality, environmentally sustainable materials to collaborate with architects and designers in creating eco-friendly cottage and home designs that utilize unique building materials and construction techniques. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wedge-Shaped Stealthy Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbora-vokac-taylor-architect.md) - [Wood Cladded Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grafton-house.md) - [Tar-Coated Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-tjurpannan.md) - [Organic Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diachok-architects.md) - [Natural Material-Crafterd Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sommarhus-e.md) - [Swedish Mountain Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-ottsj.md) - [Natural Material Scottish Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iorram.md) - [Natural Material Stilted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yngsj.md) - [Reisdential Cottage Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borova-lada-cottage.md)
