# Video Confession Apps The Awkward App Lets You Unearth Your Deepest Secrets in a 10 Second Video By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2014-07-17 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/video-confession References: [mashable](http://mashable.com/2014/07/16/awkward-confession-app/) & [awwkward](http://awwkward.com/) Anonymous secret sharing apps like Secret and Whisper have become pretty popular, but the Awkward app brings a new dimension to this concept by allowing people to share a video confession. Instead of sharing a written secret, Awkward brings a human touch to confessions with 10 second videos of people vocalizing their deepest darkest secrets. Depending on how much you're willing to fess up, the app has a blur tool that can be adjusted to mask your face a little bit or a lot. The app is like the stories of Post Secret come to life, and the Awkward app definitely delivers the awkward factor since a lot of the confessions are truly embarrassing or uncomfortable to listen to. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Video Confession Apps:** Opportunity for creating a more immersive and personal experience for anonymous secret sharing through video confessions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Social Media:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for anonymous social media platforms to expand their offerings and attract more users. - **Psychology and Therapy:** Potential for incorporating video confessions into therapeutic practices for individuals seeking emotional release and healing. - **Entertainment:** Opportunity for creating a new genre of reality TV or online content that focuses on real people sharing their deepest secrets in video format. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Social Vlogging Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vlogging-app.md) - [Video-Enabled Dating Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/candid-dating-app.md) - [Safe Stranger Chat Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whisperly-app.md) - [Private Sharing Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waffle.md) - [Authenticity-Promoting Social Media Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/viberse-app.md) - [Trailer-Making Life Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moments.md) - [Private Social Photo Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retro-app.md) - [Romantic Intimacy Communication Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/relationship-intimacy-app.md) - [Anonymous Campus Story Sharing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unstag.md)
