# Traditional Cottage Residences The Dorset Road House Features a Victorian Interior for Unity By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-09-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victorian-interior References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/09/06/dorset-road-house-sam-tisdall-architects-london-modern-victorian-terrace/) & [samtisdall](http://www.samtisdall.co.uk/) London studio Sam Tisdall Architects integrated a Victorian interior into the modern 'Dorset Road' residence by installing entwined ceiling struts. The house attaches to a Victorian terrace, meaning that the architects had to follow strict regulations ensuring the exterior matched the terrace and surrounding architecture. Though they could have gone in a super-modern direction with the interior, Sam Tisball Architects simply decided to continue the theme, creating harmony inside and out. The cottage aesthetic allows the home to blend both traditional and modern elements in a way that seems effortless. Besides the criss-cross ceiling, the house features a reclaimed oak beam. To optimize for space, the storage components of the home were recessed into the walls of the kitchen and dining area. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Victorian-modern Integration:** Opportunity for architects and interior designers to blend traditional Victorian aesthetics with modern elements for a harmonious design. - **Effortless Cottage Aesthetic:** Opportunity to create homes that seamlessly blend traditional and modern elements, allowing for a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. - **Optimized Space Storage:** Opportunity to design innovative storage solutions that are recessed into walls to optimize space in kitchens and dining areas. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Opportunity for architects and interior designers to explore and implement the integration of traditional and modern elements in residential designs. - **Home Construction and Renovation:** Opportunity for construction and renovation companies to offer services that focus on creating effortlessly blended cottage aesthetics with modern functionality. - **Furniture and Storage Solutions:** Opportunity for furniture and storage solution providers to develop innovative designs that optimize space by incorporating recessed storage components. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bespoke London Victorian Terraces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ray-house.md) - [Juxtaposing Retro Cottage Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drew-mandel-architects.md) - [Modern Interpreted English Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eight-gables.md) - [Minimal Modernized Victorian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/will-gamble-architects.md) - [Textural Tranquil Cottage Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harriets-house.md) - [Victorian Home Modular Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadow-road.md) - [Natural Light-Centric Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huron-house.md) - [Restored Victorian Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-on-a-hill.md) - [Contemporary Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bureau-de-change-2.md)
