# Upcycled Scooter Furniture David Giametta's Vespa Scooter Desk is Ideal for Work-At-Home Hipsters By Michael Hines | Published 2012-02-03 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vespa-scooter-desk References: [ecofriend](http://www.ecofriend.com/vespa-scooter-desk.html) & [reinventingwheels.blogspot](http://www.reinventingwheels.blogspot.com/) Designer David Giametta has rescued a 1968 [Vespa](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vespa-125) Sprint from the trash and created what may be the world's first Vespa Scooter Desk. The Vespa Scooter Desk is an eye-catching workstation designed using the actual hull of a 44-year-old Vespa. Giametta found the Vespa sitting in a scrap yard. The scooter was beyond restoration, but the designer decided that it didn't deserve its current fate and decided to upcycle it instead. The goal was to give someone working at the desk the feeling of riding a Vespa "without the helmet hair." The desk uses the original seat with the handlebars being converted into a [laptop stand](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-lap-desk). This seems to be the only Vespa Scooter Desk in existence, but there's probably a huge market for [retro scooter furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/italjet-roadster-400) like this. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Retro Scooter Furniture:** Creating furniture pieces using upcycled vintage scooters is a trend that appeals to nostalgic consumers and offers unique home decor options. - **Upcycled Design:** The upcycling movement continues to gain popularity as designers find innovative ways to repurpose discarded materials and create one-of-a-kind products. - **Workstation Innovation:** Designers are finding creative ways to transform traditional workstations into eye-catching pieces that inspire productivity while adding a touch of personality to the office. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** The furniture industry has an opportunity to tap into the growing demand for unique and sustainable pieces by incorporating upcycled vintage scooters into their product offerings. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can cater to the nostalgic consumer market by incorporating retro scooter furniture into their collections, offering customers unique and quirky options for their living spaces. - **Office Supplies:** The office supplies industry can explore collaborations with upcycled design artists to create innovative workstations that combine functionality with aesthetic appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Scooter-Like Portable Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-work-station.md) - [Repurposed Electric Scooter Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emetabolism-collection.md) - [Saddle-Style Vehicle Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daylodge-workspace.md) - [Converted Scooter Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emetabolism.md) - [Building Block Scooter Models](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vespa-125.md) - [Fold-Away Sleek Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-desk.md) - [Picnic-Ready Electric Scooters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smeg-futro.md) - [Futuristic Sculptural Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk.md) - [Ultra-Modern Moped Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moppe-apparatus-tdmp1.md)
