# Swivelling Stack Extensions The Vertical Rotary Socket Comprises Separate Outlets That Spin Out By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-04-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-rotary-socket References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/04/16/rotating-power/) One of the most common complaints regarding the conventional extension cord is centered around the way that a larger plug or adapter of a device can often cover the outlets on either side of it. The Vertical Rotary Socket has been designed to make this impossible, by providing independent outlets that can be spread apart from the rest of the power points in the unusual extension cord. When one or no gadgets are in use, the Vertical Rotary Socket can remain in a compact and upright arrangement to save space, fitting behind and between furnishings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 49% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Compact Extension Cords:** The compact and upright design of the Vertical Rotary Socket addresses the common complaint of larger plugs covering adjacent outlets, creating an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the extension cord industry. - **Independent Outlet Design:** The separate outlets of the Vertical Rotary Socket provide flexibility and convenience, creating opportunities for disruptive innovation in the power strip industry. - **Space-saving Power Strips:** The Vertical Rotary Socket's ability to pivot and fit behind and between furnishings creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the space-saving power strip market. ### Where This Applies - **Extension Cord Industry:** The compact and upright design of the Vertical Rotary Socket addresses the common complaint of larger plugs covering adjacent outlets, creating an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the extension cord industry. - **Power Strip Industry:** The separate outlets of the Vertical Rotary Socket provide flexibility and convenience, creating opportunities for disruptive innovation in the power strip industry. - **Furniture Industry:** The Vertical Rotary Socket's ability to pivot and fit behind and between furnishings creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the space-saving power strip market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rotating Outlet Power Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oconnect-onestep.md) - [Modular Power Strip Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodes.md) - [Modular Power Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-power-strip-1.md) - [Pencil-Resembling Power Strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencil-multitap.md) - [U-Shaped Power Strip Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-strip-2.md) - [Power Station Outlet Adapters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anker-powerextend-usbc-plug.md) - [Artfully Dynamic Power Strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aunion.md) - [Surge Protector Outlet Extendors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-plug-outlet-extender.md) - [Design-Conscious Power Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-strip-concept.md)
