# Sky-High Slammers The Vertical Prison by Chow Khoon Toong, Ong Tien Yee & Beh Ssi Cze By Meghan Young | Published 2010-03-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-prison References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5488255/vertical-prison-concept-hides-prisoners-up-in-the-sky) & [evolo.us](http://www.evolo.us/) Although my day-to-day routine never sees me worrying about the state of jails and possible jail breaks, the Vertical Prison design strangely sets my mind at ease. You never know what could happen and the last thing a city needs to worry about is a massive breakout to live through. Designed by students Chow Khoon Toong, Ong Tien Yee and Beh Ssi Cze, the Vertical Prison was winner of the Evolvo Magazine's 2010 [skyscraper competition](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/astra-skyscraper). Set high in the sky, the Vertical Prison would use [pods to transport prisoners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoshino-resort) to and from the structure. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 68% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Vertical Prison Designs:** This trend presents an opportunity for architects and designers to create innovative and secure prison structures that utilize vertical space for efficient transportation and management of prisoners. - **Skyscraper Competitions:** This trend offers an opportunity for organizations to host competitions that challenge architects and students to come up with creative and functional design solutions for various purposes, including prisons. - **Secure Transportation Systems:** This trend highlights the need for advancements in the development of secure transportation systems to safely transport prisoners to and from high-rise structures such as the Vertical Prison. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** The architecture industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by designing customized prison structures that prioritize security, efficiency, and space optimization. - **Education:** The education industry can tap into the trend of skyscraper competitions by organizing design challenges for students, encouraging creativity, and fostering future talent in architecture and design fields. - **Transportation:** The transportation industry has the opportunity to develop advanced systems that ensure safe and secure transportation of prisoners to and from high-rise structures, enhancing overall security protocols. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Staggered Cubic Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ooda.md) - [Elevated Urban Skate Venues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aan-architects.md) - [Greenery-Filled Skyscraper Terrarium](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terrarium-cheongdam.md) - [Accessible Space Travel Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-elevator-concept.md) - [Ski Resort Crystalline Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trojena-ski-resort.md) - [High-Quality Criminal Justice Complex](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wayne-county-criminal-justice-center.md) - [Freestanding Vertical Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/workstick.md) - [Prison-Transformed Luxe Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoshino-resort.md) - [Inversion Living Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-getaway.md)
