# Stylishly Simplistic Abodes This Vertical House in Tokyo was Designed by Japanese Company MUJI By Alyson Wyers | Published 2014-10-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-house References: [designtaxi](http://designtaxi.com/news/369850/In-Tokyo-MUJI-Designs-A-Minimalistic-And-Stylish-Vertical-House/) & [muji.net](http://www.muji.net/ie/tatenoie/index.html) This vertical house designed by Japanese firm [MUJI](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muji-compact-life-collection) does minimalism extremely well. Located in Arakawa-ku, Tokyo, the three story abode was conceived with "the city dweller in mind." A wooden staircase connects all three floor levels while the decor is a study in stunning simplicity, much like the rest of MUJI's products. [Design Taxi](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytillverkad) describes it as "maximizing the available space and its functions." This includes a significant amount of wall storage, from flat screen TVs to broom hooks. The stylish vertical house features crisp white walls inside and an [untreated timber look](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fukasawa-residence) on its exterior. It definitely stands out from the other homes on the street without drawing an overt amount of attention to itself. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Vertical Living:** Designing compact vertical houses that maximize available space and functionality. - **Minimalist Decor:** Creating interior designs with stunning simplicity, featuring crisp white walls and minimal furniture. - **Seamless Storage Solutions:** Incorporating innovative wall storage options, such as flat screen TV mounts and hooks, to optimize space. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Opportunity to design and construct compact vertical houses that meet the needs of city dwellers. - **Interior Design:** Creating minimalist interior designs that combine functionality, simplicity, and aesthetic appeal. - **Home Furnishings:** Developing new storage solutions and furniture designs that optimize space in compact living environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md) - [Terraced Urban Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-minamiazabu.md) - [Japan-Inspired Tiny Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mizuho.md) - [Peaceful Wooden-Designed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hiroo-residence.md) - [Intersecting Block-Formed Narrow Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-fujidera.md) - [Compact Corner Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modus-architect.md) - [Lofty Minimalist Living Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-living-space1.md) - [Concrete Boxes-Overlapping Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-tsurumiku.md) - [Minimalist Concrete Complexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residential-project-in-tokyo.md)
