As well as being ideal for its space-saving shape, care for the [hydroponic system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydroponic-tower) is [automated](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automated-planting-system) through Arduino controllers and Raspberry Pi. Made from PVC pipe and gutter parts, the system has slots for about 160 plants and covers an area of 25 square feet. While these parts may be easily assembled, the more complex components of the system come in with programming. The computerized parts of this system are able to monitor lighting, heating, pH levels and temperature, assuring that the conditions for growing plants are always optimal. For monitoring, the system can be controlled from a [smartphone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tendril-1), which is even more appealing to those living in urban areas. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Automated Hydroponic Gardening:** The use of Arduino controllers and Raspberry Pi allows for the automation of hydroponic systems, providing opportunities for increased efficiency and productivity. - **Vertical Gardening Systems:** Space-saving vertical gardening systems provide an innovative solution for urban areas with limited space for farming and gardening. - **Computerized Plant Monitoring:** Sophisticated computer components of vertical hydroponic gardens can monitor lighting, heating, pH levels and temperature, providing an opportunity for improved precision and higher yield. ### Who This Affects Most - **Urban Agriculture:** Vertical hydroponic gardens provide an opportunity for urban agriculture, allowing individuals and businesses to grow fresh produce in a limited space. - **Home Gardening:** Automated hydroponic systems provide an opportunity for home gardening, allowing individuals to grow fresh produce in their apartments or small gardens. - **Smart Agriculture:** Computerized plant monitoring systems provide an opportunity for precision agriculture, allowing farmers to optimize crop yields and reduce waste through data-driven decision-making. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mini Mess-Free Garden Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydroponics-garden.md) - [Automated Indoor Garden Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-hydroponic-garden.md) - [Self-Sustaining Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automated-hydroponic-indoor-garden.md) - [AI-Powered Autonomous Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardyn.md) - [Automated Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-evergrow.md) - [Small Space Hydroponic Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aerospring-pinch-hydroponic-system.md) - [Smart Indoor Hydroponics Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-modular-indoor-hydroponics-garden-grow-vegetables-and-herbs-automatic.md) - [Wall-Mounted Hydroponic Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydroartpod.md) - [AI-Powered Plant Care Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardyn-studio-2.md)
