# Indoor Pothole Infernos The Vellum Fireplace Heats up the Home in a Contemporary Style By Matt Ho | Published 2011-06-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vellum-fireplace References: [trendir](http://www.trendir.com/archives/005445.html) & [cocoonfires](http://www.cocoonfires.com/prod_vellum_stainless.htm) There's nothing like burning a couple of logs in a good old fireplace, but if you're looking for something that's more modern, check out the Vellum Fireplace by Cocoon Fires. The Vellum Fireplace isn't your standard fireplace. Instead, it's a chic, contemporary version of the chimney and [wood-burning stove](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodburning-appliance) that you're used to. Cocoon Fires has shaped the item into a pothole that's been mounted to a wall. The use of [stainless steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-stainlesssteel) and the bolts also gives it an industrial look which adds a cool, gritty touch to an already stylish fireplace. The Vellum can burn up to six hours if you're the type who really likes to stay cozy during the winter time next to some flaming heat. It's a great take on a [traditional fireplace](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fireplace-designs) that's been updated beautifully for the modern home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Contemporary Fireplaces:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity to create contemporary fireplaces that provide a modern look and feel to homes while heating them up. - **Industrial Design:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity to incorporate industrial design into home products to give them a unique look and appeal to consumers. - **Long-lasting Fireplaces:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity to create fireplaces that can burn for longer periods of time to provide longer periods of warmth and comfort for homeowners. ### Where This Applies - **Home Furnishings:** The home furnishings industry can create new lines of contemporary fireplaces that incorporate industrial design and long-lasting capabilities to appeal to modern consumers. - **Construction:** The construction industry can incorporate contemporary fireplaces into new home builds and renovations to provide homeowners with a unique and modern heating feature. - **Energy Efficient Products:** The energy efficient products industry can create fireplaces that not only provide warmth and comfort, but also use less energy and contribute to a more sustainable future. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Slick Modern Holographic Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holographic-fireplace.md) - [Eco-Friendly Bioethanol Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glammfire-contour.md) - [Mixed-Material Tabletop Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brasscene-harmony-flame-fireplace.md) - [Communal Fireplace Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hearth-coffee-table.md) - [Convenient Personal Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/personal-fireplace1.md) - [Unusual Fireplace Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorchanging-fireplace-color-cones.md) - [Flatpack Virtual Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graphene-radiator.md) - [Mid-Century-Inspired Wood-Burning Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodburning-appliance.md) - [Cooking-Friendly Outdoor Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/regg-surprise.md)
