Named after the Spanish word for 'candle,' it doesn't require a power source to function. Unlike candles, or classic Coleman kerosenes, this design isn't a fire hazard when used indoors. So although there are [portable lighting options](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fsl-wireless) out there, this one has benefits people haven't even thought of before. More than that, Vela by Joe VanFaasen [boasts a speaker](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calmtern). Although it was created with camping in mind, its generic design allows it to be used in other scenarios as well including the bedside table in children's rooms, the porch and more. Dubbed a 'social light,' Vela by Joe VanFaasen also shines a variety of colors to better set the mood. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Versatile Portable Lighting:** The minimalist design and added features of Vela by Joe VanFaasen indicate an opportunity for innovation in portable lighting solutions. - **Multi-functional Products:** The inclusion of a speaker and color-changing features in Vela by Joe VanFaasen suggests a trend towards creating multi-functional products. - **Fire-hazard Free Lighting:** The fire-hazard free design of Vela by Joe VanFaasen indicates a growing demand for safer lighting solutions in indoor and outdoor settings alike. ### Where This Applies - **Outdoor Recreation:** Vela by Joe VanFaasen's camping-inspired design and versatility indicates potential for innovation in outdoor recreation equipment, especially in portable lighting and audio solutions. - **Interior Design:** The multi-functional and mood-setting capabilities of Vela by Joe VanFaasen suggest an opportunity to innovate in the interior design industry when it comes to lighting and audio products for home decor. - **Childcare:** Vela by Joe VanFaasen's safety and versatility features make it a potential disruptor in the childcare industry as a multi-functional, portable night light solution. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flower-Like Portable Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tulit-led-lantern.md) - [Stylish Outdoor Illumination Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-outdoor-lantern.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Camping Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/auge-minimalist-fusion.md) - [Dual-Function Gas Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-beacon-lantern.md) - [Cozy Ambient Speaker Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aloomi-lantern.md) - [Mood-Setting Adventurous Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guidelight.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Camping Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/max-lantern.md) - [Sleek Tonal Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quesar.md) - [Ultra-Flexible Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anywhereuse-lamp.md)
