Iris van Herpen had her third show at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.

Even though van Herpen has had only two collections prior, all have had an [avant-garde look](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khaotique-noir) and [futuristic detailing in the couture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-future-is-not-set).

Refinery Smoke is her collection for Spring 2009. She loves the look of a refinery at night: the complicated lines and structural complexity. Then there are the giant clouds of emissions that look soft, but are in fact sometimes dangerous.

She dreams big, asking "is there a time when clothing is unnecessary and we can wear something intangible such as smoke?"
