# Urban Tree Installations This German Start-Up Aims to Reduce Pollution Using Vertical Planters By Ell Smith | Published 2017-05-11 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-tree-instillation References: [readwrite](http://readwrite.com/2017/05/10/internet-connected-trees-are-coming-to-a-city-near-you-cl4/) Green City Solutions is a German start-up responsible for designing CityTree's, large urban tree installations displayed in public spaces that intend to clean up the city's polluted air. According to the [World Health Organization](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mosquitmed-sun-protection), 6.5 million deaths per year, and the development of numerous health conditions can be attributed to air pollution. [City Green Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3d-biotissues-and-seawith) aimed to address these issues with a functional, and attractive solution -- [vertical urban planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planter-300) placed throughout city centers. These planters, called CityTrees, have "the performance of up to 275 conventionally planted urban trees, but only needs 5% of the cost and 99% less space." These urban tree installations will be a major feat for the biotech industry as they endeavor into new territories of urban design, and eco-architecture. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Air Pollution Reduction:** The trend of using vertical planters to reduce air pollution in urban areas presents opportunities for innovative solutions in the biotech industry. - **Eco-architecture:** The trend of incorporating vertical urban planters, such as CityTrees, into urban design offers disruptive innovation opportunities for the architecture industry. - **Sustainable Urban Development:** The trend of large urban tree installations aims to create sustainable and green urban environments, presenting opportunities for innovation in the urban planning industry. ### Who This Affects Most - **Biotech Industry:** Using vertical planters to reduce air pollution in urban areas presents disruptive innovation opportunities for the biotech industry. - **Architecture Industry:** Incorporating vertical urban planters, such as CityTrees, into urban design offers disruptive innovation opportunities for the architecture industry. - **Urban Planning Industry:** The trend of large urban tree installations aims to create sustainable and green urban environments, presenting opportunities for disruptive innovation in the urban planning industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Urban Greening Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-green.md) - [Air Purifying Architectural Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/verto-air-purification.md) - [Urban Greening Infrastructure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/greenpublic.md) - [Indoor Air Quality-Improving Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elpo-indoor-vertical-garden.md) - [Nature-Connecting Design Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vert-installation.md) - [Air-Purifying Houseplants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoplants.md) - [Pollution-Removing Murals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-campaign-sucks.md) - [Plant-Supporting Air Purifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/florapur-air-purifier-concept.md) - [Environmental EV Air Purifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audi-urban-purifier.md)
