# Coral Reef Restaurants Entering Urban Interiorites is Like Setting Foot in a Whale's Mouth By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-06-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-interiorites References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/urban-interiorites/) & [archinect](http://archinect.com/people/project/2924802/urban-interiorites/2926006#11) Few buildings massage your sense of sight like the [Urban Interiorites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-revivo-1) does, and what began as an imaginative student project has become a living breathing reality. The conceptual cafe houses a sake bar, a sushi restaurant and a lounge, designed especially for the unique culture of youth in Harajuku district of Japan. The boxy, albeit sensational, exterior stands out in a remarkable way on this bustling city block, but the way such burgeoning oceanic motifs and patterns translate into the inside of the structure creates an otherwordly atmosphere. Students from the [University of Pennsylvania School of Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-space-concept) worked together to create a space in which the architecture and the furniture could become one. The result is that the Urban Interiorites venue incorporates a peculiar yet compelling feast of visual stimuli that seems to suck inspiration from the human body and underwater organisms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.9/10 - Popularity: 100% | Activity: 100% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Oceanic-inspired Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunities lie in designing and building structures that incorporate oceanic motifs and patterns to create a unique and captivating atmosphere. - **Fusion Hospitality Venues:** There is an opportunity to disrupt the hospitality industry by combining multiple concepts, such as a sake bar, sushi restaurant, and lounge, into a single venue that caters to a specific cultural or demographic niche. - **Sensory-driven Experiences:** Creating spaces that stimulate multiple senses, like the Urban Interiorites does with its captivating visuals, invites disruptive innovation in designing immersive and memorable experiences. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Construction:** Disruptive innovation opportunities can be found in the architectural and construction industry by incorporating unconventional motifs and patterns inspired by nature, such as oceanic themes. - **Hospitality and Food Services:** The hospitality and food services industry can benefit from disruptive innovation by creating fusion venues that offer a unique combination of dining and entertainment experiences tailored to specific cultural or demographic groups. - **Experience Design and Events:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in experience design and events by creating sensory-driven spaces that evoke emotions and leave a lasting impression on visitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sea-inspired Bar Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/civico-29.md) - [Futuristic Commerce Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deji-plaza-phase-ii.md) - [Brutalist-Inspired Serene Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sushibox.md) - [Stingray-Inspired Restaurant Roofs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/overwater-restaurant.md) - [Ominous Interior Sushi Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-restaurant.md) - [Rustic Ruin-Inspired Aquariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-sea-of-cortez-research-center.md) - [Japanese Archipelago Resto Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/labysse-monte-carlo.md) - [Architecturally Romantic Restaurant Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urbanjobs.md) - [Fish Tank-Inspired Japanese Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nao-iwanari.md)
