# Dilapidated Photo Collections BestBookmarks Features Artful Images of Urban Decay By Katie Cordrey | Published 2010-07-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-decay References: [bestbookmarks.co.cc](http://bestbookmarks.co.cc/photography/17-great-photographs-of-urban-degradation) Urban decay is macabre and fascinating, but it can also be beautiful, as these [photographs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holy-ohio) from BestBookmarks confirm. Like autumn, which a friend of mine calls “the season of rotting things,” the colors and textures of decay can be breathtaking. What I find most interesting is that so many humans are drawn to the [flaking paint](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness) and weathered patina of urban decay and are driven to photograph it. In cities hard-hit with financial woes, the availability of subject matter can only increase. Maybe the art of urban decay is a silver lining in the fiscal clouds. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 84% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Artful Urban Decay Photography:** Opportunity to showcase the beauty of urban decay and offer the aesthetic to a wider audience. - **Urban Exploration Tourism:** A chance to organize tours for explorers, photographers and curious travelers to discover abandoned buildings and structures. - **Rustic Wedding Photography:** An opportunity to offer couples looking for a unique aesthetic, the option of using a decayed, rustic location as a backdrop for their wedding photos. ### Who This Affects Most - **Photography:** Growing demand for photographers to showcase urban decay and develop creative techniques and styles. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Attraction of urban decay as a unique tourist destination and its potential to generate tourism revenue. - **Wedding and Event Planning:** Opportunity for planning services to explore and offer unique, decaying locations for wedding photo shoots and events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reusable Classical Artwork Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recycling-beauty.md) - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Decayed Car Playsets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-wheels-x-daniel-arsham.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Personal Nostalgic Photo Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holy-ohio.md) - [Digital City-Inspired Art Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-station.md) - [Broken-Aesthetic Sculpture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brokenaesthetic-sculpture-collection.md) - [Timeless Photo Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photos-by-artkive.md)
