# Tap-Triggered Heaters The Urban Bonfire Radiator Uses Visual Cues to Remind Users it's Still On By Elise Ying-Hei Ho | Published 2012-12-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-bonfire References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/12/04/radiating-bonfire/) Lee Hee Young is the recipient of the award-winning concept design for the Urban Bonfire radiator, which uses visual cues to remind the user that the device is still running. The heater is turned on by a simple tap at the bottom with the user's foot. This means that users no longer have to bend down repeatedly to switch the device on and off. Once turned on, the wooden slats that were tapped on the bottom push inwards, causing the top to tilt slightly outwards, reminiscent of an actual flame as well as the firewood. Inspired by a bonfire, the Urban Bonfire radiator emits a reddish light that reflects off the adjacent wall to show that it is still on. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sustainable Heating Solutions:** The Urban Bonfire radiator's tap-triggered design opens up opportunities for sustainable heating solutions that utilize visual cues for energy efficiency. - **Smart User Interfaces:** The use of tap-triggered technology in the Urban Bonfire radiator highlights the potential for smart user interfaces that enhance convenience and accessibility in various industries. - **Aesthetic-inspired Functional Design:** The Urban Bonfire radiator's design, inspired by bonfires, presents opportunities for aesthetic-inspired functional design in home appliances and decor. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Heating:** The tap-triggered heaters trend can disrupt the home heating industry by offering innovative and sustainable alternatives to traditional radiators and heaters. - **Interior Design:** The Urban Bonfire radiator's aesthetic-inspired functional design opens up opportunities for incorporating unique and visually appealing heating elements into interior design projects. - **Smart Home Technology:** The tap-triggered heaters trend contributes to the evolution of smart home technology by introducing intuitive user interfaces that enhance energy efficiency and user experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flame-Resembling Outdoor Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bonflame.md) - [Industrial Oceanic Home Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coral-electric-radiator.md) - [Fabric Heating Concept](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moritz-walter.md) - [Flatpack Virtual Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graphene-radiator.md) - [Design-Conscious Connected Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-electric-heater.md) - [Bathroom-Ready Wall Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-heater.md) - [Mailbox-Shaped Water Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/warmflow-messenger.md) - [Modernized Ceramic Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delonghi-capsule-desk-loop.md) - [Japanese Design Shower Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hitachi-shower-heater.md)
