# Topsy Turvy Helicopter Propellers The Upside Down Ceiling Fan by Raffaele Iannello is Industrial By Erin Kirkpatrick | Published 2012-06-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upside-down-ceiling-fan-by-raffaele-iannello References: [coolmaterial](http://coolmaterial.com/home/upside-down-ceiling-fan-1/) & [raffaeleiannello](http://www.raffaeleiannello.com/en/industrial/upside-down) Oftentimes when helicopters are deemed "out of commission" they end up in a museum, but in this case they ended up in the Upside Down Ceiling Fan by Raffaele Iannello. This [ceiling fan](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heritage-fan) has reproduced the legendary Hughes/MD 500 in fine fan form, complete with a fixture in the shape of a landing pad -- no doubt, for extra effect. This particular helicopter model was renowned for its ability to perform acrobatic feats and mid-air tricks. Iannello's inventive structure shows this iconic aircraft in a landing pose on the ceiling versus in mid-air acrobatic feats. The propellers that were once responsible for weightlessly lighting this craft are now employed as [blades of the fan](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-wings-140-mm-pwm-reverse). This design was recently unveiled at the 2012 Milan Design Show and has had many flight enthusiasts ready to get their hands on it. Available with a shiny black exterior and a silver base, it will have Top-Gun-lovers giddy with excitement eager to add this aerial wonder to their treasured collection of trinkets. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Repurposed Aircraft Design:** This trend highlights the use of retired aircraft parts and designs in unexpected ways, such as turning helicopter propellers into ceiling fan blades. - **Innovative Fan Designs:** This trend showcases the creation of unique fan designs that deviate from traditional ceiling fans, offering consumers more options in terms of aesthetics and functionality. - **Nostalgia and Collectibles:** This trend focuses on the popularity of nostalgic and collectible items, attracting enthusiasts who are eager to add unique pieces, like the Upside Down Ceiling Fan, to their collections. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor and Interior Design:** This industry can explore new opportunities in repurposing unconventional items, like aircraft parts, to create unique and eye-catching decor pieces for homes and commercial spaces. - **Fan Manufacturing and Design:** This industry can capitalize on the demand for innovative fan designs by creating and manufacturing unconventional and visually appealing ceiling fans that cater to various consumer preferences. - **Collectibles and Memorabilia:** This industry can tap into the nostalgia market by offering unique and limited-edition collectible items, attracting enthusiasts who are passionate about adding distinctive pieces to their collections. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Jet Engine-Inspired Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tello-zet.md) - [Florally-Inspired Ceiling Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blossom-ceiling-fan.md) - [Stylish High-Performance Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shark-turboblade.md) - [Multipurpose Living Space Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-circulation-fan.md) - [Modern Compact Wooden Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fantastic-fan.md) - [Rectangular Bladeless Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rectangular-bladeless-fans.md) - [Revived Retro Fans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heritage-fan.md) - [Lamp-Equipped Fan Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abode-gale-fan.md) - [Triple-Propeller Photography Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dji-hitop.md)
