A series of [upcycled washing machine chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atlanta-airport-chairs) entitled 'I used to be a washing machine' transform old technology into sleek furniture. Created by industrial designer Tony Grigorian, the DIY chairs repurpose [parts of a washing machine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furniture-capsule-1) to let you sit in style. Grigorian created a set of chairs for himself and then developed detailed instructions to help those with [old washing machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/limited-edition-front-load-washer) make their own furniture.

Grigorian's washing machine chairs incorporate various parts of a single washing machine to form three chairs. Each piece of futuristic seating has a unique design that accentuates its origins. The designer created the chairs to show off the metallic structure and shine a spotlight on it.

Since washing machines are not very comfortable to sit on, Grigorian added foam. Slabs of aqua-colored material make up the seating parts of the chairs.
