# Upcycled Suitcase Pet Beds Etsy Artists Make a Cute Eco Case for Cats By Katie Cordrey | Published 2009-12-20 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upcycled-suitcase-pet-beds References: [thedailygreen](http://www.thedailygreen.com/green-homes/latest/recycled-home-decor-47090203) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/shop/lovenostalgicwhimsy) Cats spend a lot of time sleeping. When cats aren’t trying to lie across their owner’s computer keyboards, they love to get into dresser drawers, high places, and suitcases for a little nap. Making an official [cat bed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermostatic-cat-bed) out of an [old suitcase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emirates-4) is a natural. Some of the artisans of [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-christmas-tree-alternative) are doing just that: Suitcases are retrofit with legs and bedding, sometimes given a paint job or partial rebuild. The finished pieces are feline approved and might even suit a small dog. Don’t tell the cat! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Upcycled Pet Furniture:** Opportunity for artists and designers to repurpose discarded items into unique and eco-friendly pet furniture. - **DIY Pet Bed Projects:** Increased interest in DIY projects for pet owners to create customized and cost-effective pet beds using repurposed materials. - **Eco-conscious Pet Accessories:** Growing demand for sustainable and visually appealing pet accessories made from upcycled materials. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Artisanal Pet Furniture:** Artisans and craftsmen can explore the market of unique and upcycled pet furniture to cater to eco-conscious pet owners. - **DIY Home Improvement:** DIY home improvement industry can develop and market more DIY projects specifically for pet owners, offering pet bed kits and tutorials. - **Sustainable Fashion and Design:** Fashion and design industry can tap into the demand for eco-friendly products by creating pet accessories made from upcycled materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful Muffin-Inspired Cat Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pets-pods.md) - [Origami-Like Pet Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/felt-cat-bed.md) - [Functional Furniture Cat Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/donarturo-cuba-cat-house.md) - [Sustainable Portable Cat Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/batsy-cat-shelter.md) - [Affordable Minimalist Cat Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petsy-cat-house.md) - [Timber Sun-Inspired Pet Perches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/myzoo-solar.md) - [Contemporary Cat Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Cat-Furniture-1.md) - [Elevated Workstation Cat Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-nest-cat-bed.md) - [Three-in-One Pet Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-pet-bed-design.md)
