Instead of straws, this design is constructed with [recycled bicycle wheel spokes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-green-works). The resulting effect is a polished and geometric lamp shade that looks like no other. This design is called the Hawaii Lamp from Wheels, made by European company Transfodesign. The designers gathered old bicycle wheels from repair shops to reassemble its spokes into something new and artistic. The neat thing about this lamp is that it not only uses the bike parts, but it is completely assembled using the wheel's original shapes and holes. The Hawaii Lamp has been recognized at several design shows for its environmentally friendly and abstractly beautiful form. It would be a great [housewarming gift idea](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/see-earth) for the eco-conscious. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Upcycled Lighting:** The trend of repurposing household items into unique lighting fixtures creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the home decor industry - **Sustainable Design:** The increasing demand for environmentally friendly products creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the design and manufacturing industries - **Circular Economy:** The shift towards a circular economy, where waste is minimized and resources are reused, creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in various industries including furniture and home decor ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The growing interest in upcycling and sustainability creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the home decor industry - **Design:** The demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly products creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the design industry - **Manufacturing:** The push towards a circular economy and reducing waste creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the manufacturing industry ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reclaimed Industrial Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wa-lamp.md) - [Converted Scooter Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emetabolism.md) - [Abandoned Bikes-Turned Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-from-frames.md) - [3D-Printed Reversed Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/revolve-lamp.md) - [Recycled Material Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozy-cleo-lamp.md) - [Ecological Dual Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-light.md) - [Recycled Material Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zbozhzha-pendant-light.md) - [Utensil Waste Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys.md) - [Discarded Theater Screen Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discarded-theater-screen.md)
