Daniel A. Becker has come up with this cool new computer program that creates what looks like flowers or trees out of barcodes. The [UPCs (universal product codes)](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maple-scan) are found worldwide on almost everything we buy. The program he created is called Barcode Plantage and is the 2008 winner of the :output Grand Prix Award.

Using Becker's program, one scans or keys in the [bar code](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orca-scan1) and the program converts the information into various colours and curves, generating a one of a kind 'tree'. Boring black lines flow into [colourful flowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany). This is fun with technology.
