While many people use their smartphones as their primary time-telling device, others still prefer to have a digital clock on hand. This unorthodox timepiece is both functional and visually striking. The Ferrolic Display is designed by Zelf Koelman. The device features an aquarium-like tank that houses the metallic Ferro Fluid inside. The digital clock relies on a series of [powerful electromagnets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triarch) to manipulate the shape of the fluid and display the correct time. The exterior display boasts a stylish aluminum frame that allows for browser-based control over the metallic fluids inside. For those who are eager to get their hands on this unusual clock, the timepiece is now available for pre-order. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Fluid-filled Digital Clocks:** The trend of using fluid-filled displays for digital clocks presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the home decor industry. - **Electromagnetic Time-telling:** The trend of using electromagnets to manipulate fluid and display time offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the electronics manufacturing and consumer electronics industries. - **Browser-based Control:** The trend of incorporating browser-based control in digital clocks opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the software development and smart home automation industries. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by incorporating fluid-filled digital clocks as unique and visually striking decor pieces. - **Electronics Manufacturing:** In the electronics manufacturing industry, there are disruptive innovation opportunities in developing new technologies and applications for electromagnetic time-telling displays. - **Consumer Electronics:** The consumer electronics industry can capitalize on the trend of fluid-filled digital clocks by creating innovative and aesthetically pleasing time-telling devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flowing Light Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crydal-scroll-clock.md) - [Liquid Droplet DIY Watches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/droplet-watch.md) - [Mechanical Digital Mesmerizing Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triaxial-numechron-clock.md) - [Kinetic Pattern Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moir-clock.md) - [Snowglobe-Inspired Dynamic Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/time-to-snow.md) - [Analog-Style Digital Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/klydoclock.md) - [Floating Marble Cosmic Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobius-calendar-clock.md) - [Pixelated Flip-Style Wall Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miniot-klapklok.md) - [Barebones Retro-Inspired Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloudnola-flip-clock.md)
