WarSting is a wifi-detecting sword that glows when it finds what it's looking for. Introduced in a Spark IO blog post, WarSting is also something you can replicate at home as a techy DIY project. Inspired by Bilbo Baggins's sword Sting (as seen in the recent film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies), the unsecured wifi finder lights up when it senses a password-free wifi network. Perfect for Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans alike, the [tiny sword model](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/micro-katana) encourages people to [encrypt their Internet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tplink-archer-be805). When it scans an unprotected network, it publishes a message on it that says "[Your wifi network] has been vanquished!" ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Unsecured Wifi Finder:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop a more advanced and versatile unsecured wifi finder that not only detects wifi networks but also provides additional security features. - **DIY Tech Projects:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create a platform or community that allows tech enthusiasts to share and collaborate on DIY tech projects, including wifi detection devices. - **Internet Encryption:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new encryption technologies and solutions to enhance internet security and protect users' data and privacy. ### Where This Applies - **Consumer Electronics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate wifi detection features into various consumer electronics products, such as smartphones, laptops, and smart home devices. - **Home Automation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create smart home systems that not only provide automation capabilities but also detect and secure wifi networks within the house. - **Cybersecurity:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop innovative cybersecurity solutions that not only protect against hacking and attacks but also help detect and secure unsecured wifi networks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wall-Breaching Drone Trackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-device-1.md) - [Hex Wrench Smartphone Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/workingmans-sword.md) - [AI-Powered WiFi Security Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-security-alarm-system.md) - [LED-Powered Laser Swords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-series-obiwan-kenobi-force-fx-elite-lightsaber.md) - [Sculptural Wifi Routers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huawei-x3-pro-wifi.md) - [Wi-Fi Channel Monitors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-coconut.md) - [Portable Cartoon Character Routers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/davolink-minions-kevin-wifi-6e-router.md) - [Digital Fairy-Catching Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/got2glow-baby-fairy-finder.md) - [Laser Sword Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seagate-lightsaber-collection-firecuda-ssd.md)
