The analysis compared meat-based, plant-based and veterinary diets to established nutritional guidelines. The team measured levels of essential amino acids, iodine, B vitamins and vitamin D, reporting that overall nutrition was broadly similar between plant- and meat-based options, though plant-based foods tended to show lower iodine and some B vitamins. Veterinary diets often had lower total protein by design and a higher incidence of specific amino-acid shortfalls. For pet owners, the study suggests properly formulated [vegan dog food](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-earth-unicorn-pate) can meet nutritional needs when balanced and supplemented as necessary, aligning with trends toward [sustainable, ethical pet care](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mialgae).
