Inspired by the post-modern architecture in Palm Springs, Beaumont created the shelves entirely from recycled materials from his shop. He then accessorized the interior of each dollhouse-turned-shelf with miniature furniture to achieve the full, domestic effect. The mini furniture also offers a comical twist when users place their full-size car keys, smartphones and the like on the shelf. Growing up is hard to do, perhaps because it involves putting down your toys and picking up a laundry list of responsibilities in their place. Fortunately, you can allow your inner child to come out and play (in a way that doesn't involve entertaining a midlife crisis) with the Floating House shelves by Judson Beaumont for [Straight Line Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/straight-line). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 62% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Recycled Furniture:** Exploring the market potential for recycling unused materials to create unique furniture with dual utility and aesthetic appeal. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Designing furniture pieces that can transform into multiple items to cater to the modern consumer's needs with a smaller space for living. - **Miniature Interior Decor:** Leveraging miniature interior decor as a new trend for mainstream home decor, and offering a unique slash fun addition to the design landscape. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** Innovation opportunities for the furniture industry to create new furniture items using designing technologies and concepts that align with modern-day needs. - **Home Decor:** Improving the existing line of home decor and expanding it to include new themes by merging art with practicality. - **Sustainable Manufacturing:** Creating sustainable alternatives for manufacturing furniture with the objective of reducing the environmental impact of furniture production beyond traditional methods. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Japanese Woodwork-Inspired Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altitude-shelving.md) - [Whimsical Childlike Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Mobile Illuminating Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/for-a-fleeting-moment.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md)
