# Auto-Inspired Watches URWERK's UR-110PTH Signals When to Change the Oil By Jen Chae | Published 2013-05-11 | Fashion Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unique-mens-watches References: [urwerk](http://www.urwerk.com/press_download_110.php) & [urwerk](http://www.urwerk.com/collection.php) Just like a car, the [URWERK](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ur-100v-lightspeed) UR110 has a control board under the glass surface cover -- there is an oil change indicator alongside a [revolving satellite complication](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ur230-black-star), day and night indicator and rotating hour and minute modules. Some of URWERK's past models even had 100-year or 1000-year indicators. The face of the watch resembles a [car's dashboard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/porsche-anniversary-chronograph). The time ticker looks like a speedometer. The exterior was sand-blasted for a matte finish, which is the paint of choice for many car lovers. Overall, the watch has a techy, futuristic look. Co-founder and watchmaker of URWERK Felix Baumgartner states on the company site, “Our timepieces are definitely contemporary – even futuristic – designs created using the very latest technology, but they are decorated in the most traditional of manners by human hand. I like that contrast.” URWERK's philosophy is to create watch designs that have never been done before. The UR110 continues to push the boundaries of haute horlogerie. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 93% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/fashion) > [Fashion for Men](https://www.trendhunter.com/fashionformen) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Auto-inspired Watches:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Creating watches that mimic the design and functionalities of cars, incorporating features like oil change indicators and dashboard-like faces. - **Techy Futuristic Watches:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Developing timepieces with a futuristic aesthetic and incorporating the latest technological advancements. - **Traditional Decoration on Contemporary Designs:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Combining traditional handcrafted decoration techniques with modern and innovative watch designs to create unique and visually appealing timepieces. ### Where This Applies - **Watchmaking:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Incorporating automotive-inspired design elements and functionalities into high-end watches, catering to enthusiasts and collectors. - **Automotive:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Collaborating with watchmakers to create limited edition timepieces that pay homage to iconic car models and incorporate automotive features. - **Luxury Goods:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Expanding the luxury goods market by offering unique timepieces that combine cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Premium Hypercar-Inspired Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tourbillion-hyperwatch.md) - [Galaxy-Inspired Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ur-100v-lightspeed.md) - [Hypercar-Inspired Luxury Watches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tourbillon-baguette.md) - [Avant Garde Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urfreak.md) - [Angular Automobile-Inspired Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/benly-design-s3000-cyber-watch.md) - [Tubular Illuminating Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-blade.md) - [Precision Time Collabs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ulysse-nardin-x-urwerk.md) - [Sports Car-Branded Watch Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aston-martins-formula-one-team.md) - [Bespoke Automobile Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mercedes-amg-petronas.md)
