# Useless Gadget Hybrids 'Unintended Fusion' Connects Unrelated Objects By Marissa Brassfield | Published 2009-02-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unintended-fusion-christian-weber References: [i.gizmodo](http://i.gizmodo.com/5150056/unintended-gadget-fusion-puts-it-where-it-doesnt-belong) & [eyeshotsobjects.blogspot](http://eyeshotsobjects.blogspot.com/) Christian Weber's 'Unintended Fusion' series is a clever look at our obsession with hybridization. Each piece connects two functional but unrelated objects to create an utterly useless hybrid gadget. There's a [video game controller](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nothing-gamepad-1) connected to a soccer ball, [earbuds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balenciaga-sculptural-earbuds) plugged into an aerosol can and an amp connected to the arm cuff of a blood pressure monitor. We've seen more than our fair share of [multitasking devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minitoo-retro-pc-style) that are either ridiculous or useless, and Christian Weber satirizes them all with 'Unintended Fusion.' ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Useless Gadget Hybrids:** Creating useless hybrid gadgets that connect unrelated objects. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Multitasking Devices:** Exploring opportunities for creating more practical and efficient multitasking devices. - **Satirical Design:** Utilizing satire to comment on the obsession with hybridization in the design industry. - **Functional Art:** Blurring the line between art and utility by creating unique and unconventional objects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Functional Gaming Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gashapon-toys.md) - [Steampunk Desktop Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3in1-desk.md) - [AI-Generated Retrofuturistic Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrofuturistic-objects.md) - [Telescoping Component Kitchen Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hybrid-kitchen-aid.md) - [Hybrid Professional Laptop Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snapfit.md) - [Modular Handheld Home Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/circulab.md) - [Playful Industrial Desk Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forming-function-nomad-collection.md) - [Technologically Enhanced Electronic Handbags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electronic-handbags.md) - [Detachable Gaming Console Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wistron-dual-fusion.md)
