The Underwater Music Festival is a musical event held yearly by [ocean conservationists](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/worlds-largest-ocean-dispute) in the waters of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The 2011 Underwater Music Festival attracted 500 snorkelers and divers, some of who were dressed up in funky costumes and played instruments designed to look like [sea creatures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jewels-of-the-sea). Of course the music played by the "performers" at the festival could not actually be heard, which is why special speakers were dropped into the water to pump out actual tunes. Check out the video here to see the Underwater Music Festival in full swing. The instrumentals for "Under the Sea" really help to pull the whole thing together. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Ocean Conservation Events:** Innovative musical events like Florida's Underwater Music Festival are pioneering alternative approaches to promoting and funding ocean conservation efforts. - **Underwater Entertainment:** Creative businesses have an opportunity to explore unique and memorable forms of entertainment that incorporate the unique attributes of underwater settings. - **Underwater Audio Tech:** The Underwater Music Festival demonstrates a budding industry for underwater audio technology that can provide entertainment and communication for underwater events and activities. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Event Planning & Production:** Businesses in this industry can explore innovative, engaging and unique experiences to offer customers through the incorporation of unconventional themes and formats. - **Ocean Conservation:** Opportunities for funding and awareness-raising can be widened through creative campaigns that involve unique and memorable events that significantly contribute to conservation efforts. - **Underwater Technology:** Innovations within this industry can lead to creating unique experiences and solving problems related to communication or monitoring in underwater environments through the development of underwater audio and monitoring technology. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Insect Orchestra Concerts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cicada-symphony-orkinstra.md) - [Sleep-Focused Music Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleep-concert.md) - [Musician-Themed Online Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortnite-festival.md) - [Phone-Free Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phonefree-festival.md) - [Metaverse Music Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/le-phoque-off.md) - [Sustainable Public Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloud-9-festival.md) - [Metaverse Music Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kids-relief-music-festival.md) - [Water Movement Sculptural Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inner-waves.md) - [Interactive Marine Ecosystem Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marine-ecosystem-sculptures.md)
