# Villainous Subsurface Offices This Underground Lair Fit for a Bad Guy is Creepy and Ominous By Jonathon Brown | Published 2012-12-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/underground-lair References: [lostateminor](http://www.lostateminor.com/2012/11/30/is-this-a-bond-villains-underground-lair/) & [wired](http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2012/11/bahnhof?pid=373) This underground lair in WHERE looks like it's straight out of the James Bond or Batman movies. Located just south of Stockholm, the [underground bunker](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cold-war-museum-regan-vest) is called Pionen White Mountains and was renovated by Jon Karlun six years ago. The story goes that it was originally part of Sweden's [Civil Defense](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/private-event-venue) department operations. Sometime in the 1990s it was decommissioned so Karlung converted it into a [data center](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/downstairs-at-dmfk). He purposely decorated and renovated it in a manner that would make it look like a cross between a James Bond villian's lair and something out of the 1972 cult sci-fi film Silent Running. Since renovation, this underground lair has been home to the famed Wiki-Leaks but is now open for a new tenant. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 43% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Underground Offices:** The trend of creating underground offices with unique design elements to exude mystery and style. - **Conversion of Unconventional Spaces:** The trend of converting unconventional spaces such as bunkers into functional workplaces. - **Extreme Workplace Design:** The trend of creating daring and unique office designs that stand out from traditional and conventional office spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Data Center Industry:** The data center industry can explore the potential of converting unconventional spaces into data centers. - **Architecture and Interior Design Industry:** The architecture and interior design industry can capitalize on the trend of designing unconventional spaces into functional and inspiring workplaces. - **Technology Industry:** The technology industry can take advantage of the trend of creating unique and secure data center facilities that meet the demands of online platforms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md) - [Underground Autonomous Shelter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plan-b-1.md) - [Excavated Underground Living Space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hideaway-house.md) - [Angular Stealthy Holiday Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stay-under-the-radar.md) - [Mountainous Holiday Book Accommodations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grinch-cave.md) - [Partially Buried Tranquil Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-under-the-ground.md) - [Stealthy Cold War Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cold-war-museum-regan-vest.md) - [Subterranean Social Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-vale-hotel.md) - [Illuminated Cave-Like Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/javier-senosiain-arquitectos.md)
