# Flexible Accordion Furnishings The UMYD Coffee Table Becomes Several Lounge Accessories in One By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-10-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/umyd-coffee-table References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/archives/025913.php) & [cruxflux.net](http://www.cruxflux.net/) To fully complete a family room space, a table, a footstool and a desk make the area accommodating for a broad range of activities. The UMYD Coffee Table is a clever all-in-one lounge accessory that caters to each of these needs in a rather inventive way. When collapsed into its most compact form, the molded plywood piece assumes the shape of a chic low-level surface. A close look reveals the diagonal placement of the paneling on top, connected loosely to the smooth U-shaped braces beneath. Altering the arrangement of this Cruxflux creation is quite simple, because by pulling the ends away or by separating the ones in the center, the Union Modular y Democratica (UMYD) Coffee Table expands to afford accessible spaces and spanning surfaces to use as ottomans and TV trays. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Modular Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing furniture that can transform and adapt to different needs and spaces. - **Multi-functional Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating products that serve multiple purposes to maximize space and versatility. - **Space-saving Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing compact furniture that can be easily folded or collapsed to save space in small living areas. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating innovative materials and design techniques to create flexible and multi-functional furniture pieces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Providing customizable and adaptable solutions for designing small living spaces. - **Home Decor Retail:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Offering space-saving furniture options for urban dwellers and individuals living in compact homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Bookshelf-Incorporated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/overlap-table.md) - [Bent Multi-Functional Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shell-table.md) - [Multifunctional Sleek Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flex-furniture.md) - [Multifuntional Modular Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-table.md) - [Reversable Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reverse.md) - [Versatile Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-couch-20.md) - [Industrial Shapeshifting Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jointable.md)
