# UFO Plates Biodegradable Dishes Feed Nature After You've Finished Eating By Yoon Sui Yin | Published 2009-06-18 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-biodegradable-plates References: [indisposednyc](http://indisposednyc.com/index.php?s=ufo) [UFO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lufo) by Andrea Ruggiero here means Unidentified Feeding Object. It is a picnic plate made of a mixture of blended birdseed, potato starch, guar gum and seaweed as binding agent. After use, the UFO plate can be discarded anywhere. The proper way is to throw it up in the air and into the bushes so that it breaks into small pieces and thus becomes food for the birds, squirrels or rats. I call that truly hassle-free eating! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Biodegradable Picnic Ware:** The trend towards biodegradable picnic ware is an opportunity for companies to create sustainable alternatives to traditional plastic plates and cutlery. - **Edible Packaging:** The development of edible packaging, such as the UFO plate made of birdseed, presents opportunities for companies to reduce waste and create innovative, sustainable products. - **Eco-friendly Disposal:** The UFO plate's eco-friendly disposal process presents opportunities for companies to create products that not only reduce waste but also nourish the environment. ### Where This Applies - **Food Packaging:** The trend towards edible packaging presents opportunities for companies in the food packaging industry to create new, sustainable products that reduce waste. - **Outdoor Recreation:** The trend towards biodegradable picnic ware presents opportunities for companies in the outdoor recreation industry to create products that appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. - **Sustainability:** The trend towards eco-friendly disposals presents opportunities for companies in various industries to create sustainable products that reduce waste and positively impact the environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reusable Folding Storage Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calzone-tableware.md) - [Maximalist UFO Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-saucer-coffee-table.md) - [Compostable Fiber Tablewares](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farmers-fiber-retail-collection.md) - [Biotransformable Cup Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/verigreen.md) - [Shaded Modern Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-shelter.md) - [Coordinated Children-Focused Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tableware-bundle-for-children.md) - [Zero Gravity-Dining Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zero-microgravity.md) - [Edible Dog Food Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juliane-fink.md) - [Bio-Based Single-Use Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/verigreen-plus.md)
