# Boat-Chartering Services The Arrival of UberBOAT in Istanbul is Making Waves By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2015-07-04 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uberboat References: [luxuo](http://www.luxuo.com/yachting/uberboat-istanbul.html) & [newsroom.uber](http://newsroom.uber.com/turkey/tr/2015/06/uberboat/) After operating its [vehicular rideshare service](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uber-6) in Istanbul for a year, [Uber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uber-ski) is now continuing to conquer land and sea with the introduction of a new service—UberBOAT. The [private ferry service](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maritime-transportation-system) will be run in cooperation with the sea transport company Navette, transporting anywhere from six to eight passengers at a time on a boat through the Bosphorus strait. In order to call for a vessel, Uber users will be able to order a boat in the same way that they put out a call for a car on the app. Although officials in many major cities are up in arms about the cab-hailing service, it's hard to compete with the convenience and cost offered to consumers. Now that UberBOAT will be operating on water and people will be able to bypass road traffic, the service is becoming even more irresistible. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Private-ferry Services:** The introduction of UberBOAT in Istanbul paves the way for the growth of private-ferry services, offering a more convenient and efficient mode of transportation on water. - **On-demand Boating:** The ability to request a boat using a ride-hailing app like UberBOAT presents an opportunity for on-demand boating experiences, creating a new market for boat rentals and charters. - **Multimodal Transportation:** UberBOAT's expansion into water transportation highlights the rise of multimodal transportation services, allowing users to seamlessly combine different modes of transport for a smoother journey. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Ride-hailing:** The success of UberBOAT in Istanbul demonstrates the potential for the integration of ride-hailing services into the boating industry, revolutionizing the way people book and enjoy boat rides. - **Boating and Yachting:** The growth of private-ferry services like UberBOAT presents an opportunity for the boating and yachting industry to tap into a new customer base and offer personalized on-demand experiences. - **Urban Transportation:** The emergence of on-demand boating services like UberBOAT contributes to the evolution of urban transportation, providing an alternative mode of commute for city dwellers looking to avoid traffic jams and congestion. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Winter Sport Rideshare Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uber-ski.md) - [Speedy Hydrofoil Water Taxis](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artemis-ef12-escape.md) - [Seafood Delivery Drivers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceylon-fisheries.md) - [Event Shuttle Rideshare Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uber-shuttle.md) - [Car Rental Expanses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uber-rent.md) - [In-App Flight Booking Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flight-function.md) - [Branded Breakfast Water Taxis](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capns-commute.md) - [Hydrofoiling Electric Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydrofoiling-electric-boats.md) - [Sight-Seeing Hot Tubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chicago-electric-boat-company.md)
