Thanks to a new partnership between Uber and [Hertz](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hertz), Uber drivers in London will be able to rent Tesla and [Polestar](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comfort-electric) vehicles to service customers in an effort to phase out gas-powered vehicles. Uber and Lyft must have 90% of their fleets run on electricity by 2030 under regulations enacted by [California](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heavyduty-fuel-cell-trucks), the country's largest vehicle market. The EU is also enacting similar legislation.

To qualify to rent an EV through Hertz, drivers in the US must also maintain an average rating of 4.7 stars and have made at least 150 trips. Drivers who utilize hybrid or electric vehicles will also receive extra money per ride, equating to about 50 cents extra per ride for hybrid vehicles and $1.50 extra for battery-electric vehicles.
