# Rest Stop Housing The UAX Studio Looks More Like Public Washrooms than a Living Space By Meghan Young | Published 2010-05-23 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uax-studio References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2010/05/21/uax-studio-in-kojetin-by-kamil-mrva-architects/) & [mrva.net](http://www.mrva.net/) Looking at the UAX Studio, I'm sure you also see the resemblance to public washrooms found in parks and such. Yet upon further inspection, I couldn't be more wrong. Its minimalist design and simplicity engages its surroundings by contrasting almost severely with it. Designed by Kamil Mrva Architects, the UAX Studio functions both as a [work and living space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burr-studio-1). [Formerly a farm](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mothers-house), it was reconstructed for the modern family. Using [natural materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-bua), the severity of its design is softened considerably. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Minimalist Design:** Embracing minimalist design in architecture and interior spaces presents opportunities for innovative and functional living and work spaces. - **Conversion of Spaces:** The trend of converting existing spaces, such as farms or industrial buildings, into modern living and work spaces provides opportunities for adaptive and sustainable design solutions. - **Contrasting Surroundings:** Creating architectural designs that intentionally contrast with their surroundings can offer unique and visually striking living and work experiences. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects and designers can explore the potential of minimalist design to create innovative residential and commercial spaces. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can embrace the trend of converting existing spaces into modern living and work environments by providing creative and functional solutions. - **Construction:** The construction industry can capitalize on the trend of creating architectural designs that contrast with their surroundings by offering unique building techniques and materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bathroom-Centric Dubai Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bone-studio.md) - [Transformed Minimal Artist Residency](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quadrodesign.md) - [Simplistic Tranquil Garden Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuinhuis-atelier.md) - [Log Cabin-Inspired Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/restua.md) - [Abandoned Bar-Transformed Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xstudio.md) - [Remodelled Studio Resident Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-clara.md) - [Compact Cozy Garden Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bush-studio.md) - [Nature-Surrounded Miniature Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mini.md) - [Compact Stone Conversions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/figuier-house.md)
