# Warped-Legged Seats The Twist-Grille Stool is Inspired by Traditional Taiwanese Windows By Meghan Young | Published 2012-11-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twistgrille-stool References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/twist-grille-stool-by-yen-hao-chen-and-hui-ying-lu/) & [flickr](http://www.flickr.com/photos/yenhao_chen/sets/72157631825681011/) The Twist-Grille Stool looks like a standard seat except for the warped base it is supported on. Nevertheless, the [criss-crossing legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sway-chair) are twisted in such a subtle way that they simply add an almost artistic touch to the overal design. Upon closer inspection, the Twist-Grille Stool has a rugged appearance, which will bring some character to the often prim and proper living space of the modern individual. Designed by Yen Hao Chen and Hui-Ying Lu, the Twist-Grille Stool is inspired by the characteristic feature of the traditional Taiwanese window grill, which relies heavily on [twisted metal](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twist-side-table). Although already supported on three triangular elements, the twisting of the metal adds structural strength to the [colorful Twist-Grille Stool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/girard-stool). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Warped-legged Seats:** The use of twisted metal legs in furniture design creates a visually interesting and unique aesthetic. - **Artistic Touch:** The incorporation of subtle artistic elements in furniture design adds a touch of creativity and personality to living spaces. - **Rugged Appearance:** The trend towards furniture with a rugged appearance adds character and authenticity to modern living spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can explore new designs that incorporate twisted metal legs to appeal to consumers seeking unique and visually striking pieces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage furniture with subtle artistic elements to create visually interesting and personalized living spaces for their clients. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can capitalize on the trend towards furniture with a rugged appearance by offering products that add character and authenticity to modern homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Pretzel-Like Comfortable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dohui.md) - [Interlocking Wooden Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-tie-stool.md) - [Alien-Inspired Metal Stool Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-stool-1.md) - [Minimal Wooden Webbed Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knot-stool.md) - [Cross Leg-Supported Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/euljiro.md) - [Simplistic Seating Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hipstool.md) - [Folded Paper-Inspired Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fold-stool.md) - [Design-Forward Stackable Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stackable-stool.md) - [Visibly Undulating Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concave-stool.md)
