# Twisted Log Cabins Bergmeisterwolf's 'Twisted House' Reinterprets Classic Building Styles By Joey Haar | Published 2017-05-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/05/18/bergmeisterwolf-log-cabin-construction-twisted-house-apartments-architecture-hotels-italy/) & [bergmeisterwolf.it](http://www.bergmeisterwolf.it/projekte/) Lincoln Logs are an old but timeless kids toy, and the '[Twisted House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1)' by Bergmeisterwolf, an [Alpine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elizabeth-roberts-architects) architecture firm, takes inspiration from those simple building sticks. The apartments in South Tyrol employ the same alternating overlap that kids use when building houses out of Linclon Logs, but, as their name suggests, the apartments fascinatingly rethink the ways in which such a technique can be put to practice. Each volume in the Twisted House apartments indeed has a facade covered in [alternating slats of timber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/common-woods), but the walls are shaped at irregular angles to add some dynamism to what would other wise perfectly rectangular buildings. The roofs are then offset from the shapes of the buildings, further adding to the geometric twist that characterizes the apartments. The Twisted House complex is built around a central courtyard outside of the town of Brixen, near Bergmeisterwolf's studio. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Twisted Log Cabins:** Opportunity to explore innovative and dynamic architectural designs by reinterpreting classic building styles like Lincoln Logs. - **Alternating Overlap Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to create visually striking buildings by incorporating alternating slats of timber in irregular angles. - **Geometric Twist:** Opportunity to challenge traditional rectangular building shapes by offsetting roofs and introducing irregular angles for added dynamism. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architects and designers can leverage the concept of twisted log cabins to create unique and visually appealing structures. - **Construction:** Contractors and builders can explore new techniques and materials to implement alternating overlap architecture in their projects. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can attract attention and differentiate their properties by incorporating the geometric twist design in their residential or commercial projects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Barn-Form Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1.md) - [Geometric Timber Holiday Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amunt.md) - [Sustainable Cubic Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/appels-architekten.md) - [Log Cabin-Inspired Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balbek-bureau.md) - [Cartoonish Tubular Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tubular-treehouse.md) - [Multigenerational Modern Twin-Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-with-one-pillar.md) - [Lake-Bordering Timber Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3ae.md) - [Sleek Modular German Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-anton-ii.md) - [Nature-Rooted Family Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-am-lagnesberg.md)
