# Twisted Design Tunnels The Technicolor Bloom By Elsa Blaine | Published 2008-07-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-design-installation-technicolor-bloom References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2008/07/09/technicolor-bloom-by-brennan-buck/#more-15035) & [technicolorbloom](http://www.technicolorbloom.com/) Inspired by topographical surfaces, Brennan Buck and his team designed and produced this stunning [architectural installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-time), which is now on display at the [Museum of Applied arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mkg) in Vienna. 'Technicolor Bloom' is a collection of 1,400 intricately cut pieces of poplar plywood bound together with cable binders. Each piece is painted white on one side and either magenta, yellow or blue on the other. Various layers and thicknesses were also used to create this [elaborate tunnel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/masterpeace-painting), which to me bears a resemblance to the spiral of a helix. It took the team 12 hours to complete final assembly of the installation. Very beautiful and highly technical illustrations and descriptions of the design process are on the Technicolor Bloom website. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 80% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Topographical Surface Designs:** Opportunity for creating visually stunning architectural installations inspired by topographical surfaces. - **Intricate Plywood Installations:** Chance to use intricately cut pieces of plywood bound together to create unique installations. - **Elaborate Tunnel Structures:** Potential for creating elaborate tunnel structures using various layers and thicknesses. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects and designers to incorporate topographical surface designs into their projects. - **Art:** Chance for artists to create intricate plywood installations as a form of artistic expression. - **Museum:** Potential for museums to showcase elaborate tunnel structures as captivating and immersive exhibits. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Organic Spiral Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasona-natureverse-pavilion.md) - [Petal-Inspired Glass Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloom-wall-light.md) - [Brain-Like Labyrinths](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brash-collective.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md) - [Hanging Portal-Like Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duo-installation.md) - [Donut-Shaped Meteorological Balloons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-gateway-and-sky-ring.md) - [Colorful Texture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorscape-installation.md) - [Reflective Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-caviar.md)
