# Silly Seesaw Seating The Twin Bench Brings Playfulness to the Practicality of Home Furnishings By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-10-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twin-bench References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2013/09/TWIN-BENCH.html) & [andrearekalidis.it](http://www.andrearekalidis.it/post/62517594515/twin-bench-sunlab-2013-contest-winner-twin-is-a) Adults can play too, and this is encouraged by the designer of the Twin Bench. Andrea Rekalidis has developed a [minimalist seating system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sway-chair) that is anything but simple in use, allowing a pair of people to sit together and experience a gentle sway. Caught somewhere between a rocking horse and a [rocking chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/espattio-platero-rocking-table), this lovely lumber contraption is manufactured from a pale panel of wood on top and contrasting dark pieces for a base. It can be set up with or without the curved tracks, providing a stable perch or an oscillating one, depending on preference. An additional configuration modifies the Twin Bench so that the legs support the ends of the plank. In the same way, you're left with a stationary or a swaying seat for one or two people. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Playful Home Furnishings:** Design unique furniture that is both functional and adds an element of playfulness to the home. - **Minimalist Seating Systems:** Experiment with minimalism in furniture design, creating simple yet innovative seating options. - **Versatile Seating Options:** Create seating solutions that can be easily modified to provide different experiences and uses. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Design and manufacture unique, playful, and functional furniture pieces that appeal to consumers looking for something different. - **Interior Design Services:** Offer interior design services that incorporate playful and minimalist furniture options in clients' homes. - **Recreation and Leisure:** Develop versatile seating options for use in outdoor recreation areas, such as parks or playgrounds. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Seesaw-Like Playful Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balance-bench.md) - [Dual-Seated Plate Aluminum Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-a-little-bit-further.md) - [Playground-Inspired Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-seat.md) - [Playful Modular Kids Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twiny-sofa-system.md) - [Adaptive Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adp-bench.md) - [Bold Motion Bench Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelbench-krllermller-edition.md) - [Sculptural Dynamic Two-Person Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bench-for-two.md) - [Minimalist Meditative Bench Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pause-bench.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md)
