# Surreal Nesting Seating When Stacked, the Twain Chairs Appear to Be a Single Piece of Furniture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-02-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twain-chairs References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2014/02/26/twain-chair-by-marina-lothigius.php) & [se.linkedin](http://se.linkedin.com/pub/marina-lothigius/6b/3a6/519) If you're observing the Twain Chairs pair in its stacked arrangement, you likely wouldn't assume that it separates into two. Besides what appears to be a reinforced structure with extra support in the backrest and the legs, this compound piece of furniture looks like it could serve as a relatively normal dining chair. But if you were to grasp the lower rail of the backrest from behind and pull it out, you would discover that a smaller task chair emerges. Its seat is nestled beneath that of the larger furnishing, and when the two stand independently, you'll notice that they're both complete objects with [minimalist assemblies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitter-chair). The Twain Chairs prototypes have been made from [solid ash wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass) and would be ideal for small rooms that occasionally demand [overflow seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pla-modular-chair). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nesting Furniture:** The Twain Chairs demonstrate the trend of nesting furniture, where multiple pieces can be stacked or nested together to save space. - **Disguised Furniture:** The Twain Chairs showcase the trend of disguised furniture, as they appear as a single piece when stacked but can be separated into two functional chairs. - **Modular Seating:** The Twain Chairs exemplify the trend of modular seating, offering flexibility and adaptability in different configurations depending on the user's needs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The Twain Chairs present an innovative opportunity for furniture manufacturers to create space-saving and versatile seating solutions. - **Interior Design:** In the field of interior design, the Twain Chairs offer a disruptive innovation with their ability to transform from a single chair into two distinct seating options. - **Small Space Living:** For the small space living industry, the Twain Chairs provide an innovative solution for maximizing seating options in compact environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Puzzle-Like Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twinsmdf.md) - [Stylish Stackable Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nesting-chair.md) - [Stackable Screw-Free Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-stack-chair.md) - [Meticulous Paper-Stacked Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paragraphic-in-four-stacks.md) - [Modular Table Seatings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-and-chair.md) - [Flatpack Ultra-Modular Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebula-chair.md) - [Dynamic Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldont-chair.md) - [Floating Component Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-top-chair.md) - [Solid Wooden Stackable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/naku.md)
