This [black-stained wood abode](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tallowwood-cabin) is located on the North Island in New Zealand. This building is one-story, and has a beautiful view of the [forested coast and ocean](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-guaec-project). At night, the house can be completely closed up to protect itself from the winds, and it also has a drawbridge at its entrance. The windows have foldable shutters, and when they are closed, burglars do not have a chance of even peaking in. The interior of the house is made mainly from [stained timber and plywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-clt-house) to create a contemporary rustic look that blends with its surrounding. The Tutukaka House is a stunning getaway that is a perfect relaxing retreat from the city. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Wooden Retreat Homes:** The trend in building secluded, rustic wooden homes away from the city opens up opportunities for eco-friendly architecture. - **Smart Security Shutters:** The use of foldable shutters for both design and security purposes paves the way for technological advancements in home security. - **Blending Contemporary and Rustic Design:** The blending of contemporary and rustic design in architecture appeals to consumers looking for a unique, personalized style. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can explore eco-friendly, sustainable designs for secluded, rustic homes. - **Home Security:** Companies in the home security industry can develop technology for foldable shutters and automated security systems. - **Interior Design:** Interior design companies can offer services that combine contemporary and rustic styles to meet the demand for personalized and unique home decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Blackened Timber Tranquil Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-hideaway-house.md) - [Coastal Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cornwall-retreat.md) - [Quaint Alpine Minimal Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kerer-retreat.md) - [Coastal Metal Minimal Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rk-residence.md) - [Picturesque Modern Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ligar-bay-bach.md) - [Elevated Timber-Clad Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victory-bay-house.md) - [Angular Black Cantilevered Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tallowwood-cabin.md) - [Wedge-Shaped Stealthy Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbora-vokac-taylor-architect.md) - [Tar-Coated Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-tjurpannan.md)
