Created by the London-based studio Troika, whose works use a cross-disciplinary approach that finds the cross between sculpture, architecture, and contemporary installation, the sculpture, "celebrates the weather as a predominant topic of discussion in British culture while offering a spin on the urgency with which we are using our mobile devices, forecasting and interactive technology," according to the designer's site. Standing at 5 metres high, the installation uses LED lighting of [classic forecasting icons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brzzy) of rain, sun and clouds to echo the conditions of the weather from the previous. The automatic updates are possible because Troika used [custom software and wireless Internet connection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/data-driven-digital-experience) so citizens can compare the weather today to that of yesterday. As part of the London Festival of Architecture, the Troika The Weather Yesterday installation will remain in the east London Hoxton Square until September 9, 2012. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Live Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/livearts) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Playful Light Installations:** The Troika 'The Weather Yesterday' installation is an example of how playful light installations can create unique experiences for audiences, providing opportunities for artists and designers to showcase innovation and creativity. - **Custom Weather Forecasting Software:** The use of custom software by Troika in the 'The Weather Yesterday' installation demonstrates the potential for software developers and tech companies to create tailored solutions for weather forecasting. - **Wireless Connectivity for Installations:** The wireless Internet connection used by Troika in the 'The Weather Yesterday' installation highlights the potential for installations to incorporate real-time updates and connectivity in a seamless and aesthetically pleasing manner. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art Installations:** The 'The Weather Yesterday' installation provides opportunities for art installations to enhance public spaces, engage with audiences and create unique experiences. - **Weather Forecasting:** The use of custom software in the 'The Weather Yesterday' installation highlights the potential for tech companies and weather forecasting firms to collaborate and create more accurate and personalized weather forecasts for individuals and businesses. - **Smart City Technology:** The wireless connectivity used by Troika in the 'The Weather Yesterday' installation demonstrates the potential for smart city technology to incorporate aesthetics and functionality in innovative ways to improve public spaces and citizens' lives. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stylish Mechanical Weather Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skymill.md) - [Urban Soundscape Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-installation.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Dynamic Interactive Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zava.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md) - [UK-Based Modern Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/relics-in-the-landscape.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md)
