# Synthetic Eco Trees Treepods Clean Air in Urban Jungles Without Soil, Water or Upkeep By Clarissa Hilary Basham | Published 2011-03-28 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treepods References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/cool-concept-co2-to-o2) & [shiftboston.org](http://shiftboston.org/competitions/2011_treepods.html) Treepods are [synthetic trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wonderwoods-vertical-forest) made from recycled water bottles that replicate the benefits of real trees in [urban areas and concrete jungles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/greenpublic). The Treepods were designed by Mario Caceres and Christian Canonico, who responded to a call by SHIFTboston for creations that could provide protection and decarbonization without soil, water or care. Their winning design will be an entry in the [U.S. Green Building Council](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mad-fuel-system) Urban Tree Competition. The Treepods remove carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen, just like real trees. Treepods boast solar panels and a kinetic energy station to power air filtration. The trees' modern design will fit right into a downtown core, and can even light up at night. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 92% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Synthetic Eco Trees:** Creating synthetic trees that replicate the benefits of real trees in urban areas without the need for soil, water, or upkeep. - **Decarbonization Solutions:** Developing innovative solutions that remove carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen, such as the Treepods. - **Sustainable Urban Design:** Exploring modern design concepts for urban areas that incorporate eco-friendly features like solar panels and kinetic energy stations. ### Where This Applies - **Environmental Technology:** Environmental technology companies can capitalize on the demand for synthetic eco trees and decarbonization solutions. - **Urban Planning and Development:** Urban planning and development firms can incorporate sustainable and eco-friendly design concepts, like the Treepods, into their projects. - **Green Building and Architecture:** Green building and architecture companies can explore innovative materials and designs to create sustainable urban environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Growth Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treesoil.md) - [Tree-Inspired Solar Panel Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarbotanic-energy-tree.md) - [Prefab Timber Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-nests-treepod-project.md) - [Self-Watering Smart Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leafypod.md) - [Air-Purifying Houseplants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoplants.md) - [Urban Greening Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-green.md) - [Air Purifying Architectural Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/verto-air-purification.md) - [Natural Moss Terrariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petite-foret-plus.md) - [Sustainable Decomposing Containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rootmaker.md)
