# Fashionable Fungi Furniture The Floris Wubben Tree Fungus Shelf is Naturalistic By Andrew Robertson | Published 2012-03-06 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-fungus-shelf References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/category/home-furnishings/) & [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/tree-fungus-by-floris-wubben/#more-94853) Netherlands-based designer [Floris Wubben](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-floris-rubben)’s new Tree Fungus Shelf comes as the result of a collaboration with artist Bauke Fokkema and combines outdoor elements with indoor furnishings in a contemporary fashion. When asked about the source for the piece’s conception, Wubben commented that the Tree Fungus Shelf was inspired by the parasitic structure of the [mold and fungus](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duk-series) found inside a willow stem. The shelf itself is composed of “two halves of an already fallen pollard willow” and connected by a spore-themed white shelf. The shelf would be a lovely addition to any home decor that incorporates a naturalistic element as a prevailing motif. Large enough to be a room divider, the Tree Fungus Shelf would also beautifully compliment Wubben’s earlier design: the No. 3 chair. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nature-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to incorporate natural elements and materials in furniture design to appeal to consumers looking for eco-friendly and sustainable home decor options. - **Functional Art:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create unique and visually appealing furniture pieces that serve a practical purpose. - **Upcycling:** Opportunity for furniture designers to repurpose and transform discarded materials, such as fallen tree branches, into functional and beautiful pieces of furniture. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** Furniture companies can incorporate natural elements and materials in their designs to appeal to eco-conscious consumers. - **Art:** Artists can explore the intersection of art and furniture design by creating functional artwork like the Tree Fungus Shelf. - **Sustainability:** Sustainability-focused companies can leverage upcycling techniques to create sustainable furniture options while reducing waste and promoting eco-friendliness. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Furry Mycelium Sustainable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aifunghi.md) - [Mushroom Leather Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroom-leather-seating.md) - [Mycelium-Based Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ephemeral-table.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Mushroom Leather Fruit Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-fruit-bowl-by-heron-preston.md) - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Wilderness-Inspired Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/habitat-collection.md) - [Stunning Mushroom-Shaped Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroomshaped-table-lamp.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md)
