# Chair-Covered Cabinets The Trash Closet is Decorated Haphazardly with Pieces of Found Furniture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-03-26 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trash-closet References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/archives/029808.php) & [lucasenlucas](http://www.lucasenlucas.com/product-design/trash-closet) You wouldn't call the Trash Closet a seating system, even though you will observe a mess of multiple [dining chairs and tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/same-same) that clutter every surface of the cabinet. The principal function of this piece of furniture is to serve as an armoire, with the added benefit of delighting the user as a wonderfully whimsical object. The appearance of the Lucas en Lucas item is truly magnetic; it seems to attract every other object in the room and, consequently, your gaze. The designer duo built the [storage unit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/obelisk-3) out of mostly oak and enhanced it eccentrically with [discarded wooden furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atlanta-airport-chairs) that they found on the streets of Amsterdam. To calm the chaos of the Trash Closet, the creators painted every bit of the exterior white, coating only the inside with a vivid neon orange. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Upcycling Furniture:** There is a trend towards upcycling and reusing old furniture to create unique and eye-catching storage solutions like Chair-Covered Cabinets. - **Whimsical Design:** Consumers are attracted to furniture pieces that add a touch of whimsy and surprise to their living spaces, making designs like the Trash Closet appealing. - **Eclectic Style:** The mixing of styles and materials like the oak and neon orange used in the Trash Closet can be a trend in home decor and design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Designers and furniture makers can capitalize on the upcycling trend and unique design style by creating one-of-a-kind pieces like the Chair-Covered Cabinets that provide both functionality and aesthetic appeal. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate the eclectic style of the Trash Closet in their overall design schemes, using furniture pieces to create surprising and memorable moments in a room. - **Sustainability:** The upcycling trend and use of discarded furniture in pieces like the Trash Closet can contribute to the environmental sustainability movement and offer opportunities for innovative eco-conscious designs in various industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Thoughtful Wheeling Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet-on-wheels.md) - [Storage-Equipped Restaurant Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rack-chair.md) - [Storage-Attached Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grid-chair.md) - [Modular Table Seatings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-and-chair.md) - [Stylish Oakwood Storage Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moose-cabinet.md) - [Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet.md) - [Upcycled CD Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-disc-chair.md) - [Playful Toy-Like Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frunchroom-furniture-collection.md)
