# Sterile Plastic Seating NENDO's Pristine Transparent Chair Acts Like a Mini Hammock By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transparent-chair References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2011/04/10/transparent-chair-by-nendo/) & [nendo.jp](http://www.nendo.jp/) The Transparent Chair definitely gives off a very sterile vibe. Not only does it have a [minimalist aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedeo-chair), but it is also made up of a medium which gives it a [bubble-like effect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knit-one-chair). Designed by [NENDO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chaise-medallion-30), the Transparent Chair may look like it’s been made out of plastic, but the material used is actually polyurethane film. Often used as packing material for precision instruments and products, polyurethane film absorbs vibrations and shocks due to its high elasticity. Rather shapeless when not in use, the Transparent Chair molds to each person’s body like a hammock. When in use, the Transparent Chair consists of only a backrest and arm rests. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Transparent Furniture:** Opportunity for creating minimalist, sleek furniture designs using transparent materials. - **Elastic Seating:** Innovative seating designs that mold to the user's body for enhanced comfort and support. - **Sterile Aesthetics:** Demand for furniture with a clean and minimalist look to create a modern and sterile environment. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture manufacturers to create transparent and elastic seating designs. - **Interior Design:** Designers can incorporate sterile aesthetics and transparent furniture into modern, minimalist interior designs. - **Medical Equipment:** Development of polyurethane film seating for use in healthcare settings to absorb vibrations and shocks for patient comfort. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Transparent Bean Bag Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transparent-bean-bag.md) - [Aesthetically Pleasing Minimalist Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-chairs.md) - [Stainless Steel Reflective Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair.md) - [Cubic Featherlight Seat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-hold-up-chair.md) - [Aluminum Stainless Steel Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morph-chair.md) - [Multipurpose Polycarbonate Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/push-fit-chair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Ergonomic Polyurethane Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arfinio-chair.md) - [Sustainable Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-limbo-chair.md)
