The unit comes in two models: the Scarlet, available in 4 versions, and the more professional 'EPIC.' The company jokes that there are about 2,251,799,813,685,248 possible camera configurations with the [modular DSMC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-walker-multi-cam). Still images on the units range from [4.9 megapixels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sony-lytia-901) to an unbelievable 261 megapixels. Prices when the Scarlet camera hit the shelves in spring 2009 will range from $2,500 to $12,000. You will have to wait until summer for the EPIC, which will give you time to save up the $28,000 to $55,000 required to buy it. If that's not enough, RED is hinting at a 3-D version coming soon. I have to say the stunning product promo photos are enough to get the blood moving. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 17% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/photography) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Modular Camera Systems:** The DSMC camera offers unlimited configurations and highly customizable features, paving the way for modular camera systems that can adapt to various settings and needs. - **High-megapixel Cameras:** The RED DSMC has a maximum of 261 megapixels, highlighting the trend towards high-megapixel cameras that can capture more detail and produce higher-quality images and videos. - **3D Cameras:** RED hinted at a 3D version of their DSMC camera, indicating a growing trend in the development of 3D cameras for various applications, such as entertainment and industrial purposes. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography and Videography:** The modular and customizable features of the DSMC camera create opportunities for photographers and videographers to enhance their craft and provide unique and advanced services to clients. - **High-resolution Imaging:** Industries requiring high-resolution imaging, such as medical and scientific fields, can benefit from the development of high-megapixel cameras like the DSMC, which can provide detailed and accurate visuals of subjects and objects. - **Virtual and Augmented Reality:** The availability of 3D cameras like the DSMC can contribute to the further development of virtual and augmented reality technologies, creating immersive and realistic experiences for users in various industries, such as gaming and education. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [8K Resolution Cinema Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/v-raptor-v-raptorxl-cinema-cameras.md) - [Cinema-Grade Digital Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-komodox.md) - [Highly Advanced Camera Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boundaries-of-imaging-technology.md) - [Lens-Integrated Travel Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/travel-camera.md) - [Ultra-High Res Mirrorless Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/x2d-100c.md) - [Hyper High-Resolution Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyper-highresolution-camera.md) - [Budget 8K Cinema Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/8k-cinema-camera.md) - [Flagship Premium camera Releases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/x2d-ii-100c.md) - [High-End Full-Frame Camera Models](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leica-q3.md)
